Four men about to commit a serious crime; robbing a Post Office van.

A boxer, an out-of-work clerk who with his wife wants to escape her nagging mother, a 'gentleman' scrounger with gambling debts, and an airman with an unfaithful wife who has gone AWOL from the US Airforce.

The film tells each of their stories and how they came to be involved in such a crime.
